34.1

34.1 is a conversion of an old printing press building into offices, retail and studio spaces. The scheme consists of an additive and reductive strategy acting in tandem, both relying on the fact that the printing press was originally designed to support huge structural loads associated with printing machinery. On the one hand, cutting out a large opening in the roof of the building to create a courtyard, complete with a transplanted mature tree, around which the office spaces are arranged. On the other hand, hanging a cantilevered concrete stair on the exterior of the building, connecting the first and second floors.
